Cluster WASTen was established in 2015 having the goal to unite efforts of industry and research institutions for improving Environment in the most contaminated areas of the Czech Republic: Usti and Moravsky regions. Currently WASTen carries out state-supported projects “Bio char production by thermal decomposition of WWTP sludge” and “Zinc waste research and development of zinc products” and implements two projects on CLUSTER development and internationalization.

The Faculty of the Environment’s research and outreach are focused on bioremediation, phytotechnologies and waste treatment. It is a part of the research infrastructure NanoEnviCz (Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies). A State project on revitalization of post-mining localities and a bilateral project with Kazakhstan on remediation of contaminated soils have been carried out. Since 2016 UJEP is a leader of NATO SPS MYP on phytotechnology of military sites in cooperation with Ukraine, USA, Kazakhstan, Poland and Croatia.

Research and outreach at the Faculty of Environmental Technology is focused on basic and applied interdisciplinary approaches, united technical chemistry, ecology and modelling with application of LCA, EIA LCC. The Institute of Environmental Technology at VSB-TUO focuses on energy recovery of waste: pyrolysis, incineration and anaerobic digestion, waste gas and water cleaning by heterogeneous catalysis and photocatalysis, adsorption. The transdisciplinary international projects were accomplished, including those on developing the torrefication unit for processing of low-energy waste and on conversion of agricultural waste to sorbents (latest with Peru).

The Chair of Agricultural Systems and Technology is involved in soil cultivation, harvesting and processing of plant raw materials, alternative drive systems for mobile machines, renewable energies and raw materials. TUD-AST has numerous laboratory test stands, a soil gutter system and mobile field trial technology. It has CAD workstations, design capacities and a workshop area for the construction of demonstrators, test stands and functional samples. The Chair actively cooperates with agricultural companies and associations.

Research and outreach at the Chair of Wood Technology and Fibre Materials Technology have a distinctly applied character and carry out in an interrelationship of basic research and applied level actors or companies. Activities are focused on analyzing, measuring, modelling, and changing properties and behavior of wood and fibre materials and the products derived due to the physical, chemical and biological modification. Processing of wood and fibre materials with special emphasis on operational and natural environment, modelling of technology and development of machines and tools are under the evaluation as well.
